Reasons People love Living in GA
One of the biggest things our clients loved about moving to Georgia is usually one of the biggest reasons they came here in the first place, and that is the lower cost of living and lower home prices. People who move from states like California are always so happy to see how much farther their money goes here in Georgia than it did in the state they came from. They are blown away when they realize what $650 thousand will get them here in Georgia. They can get twice as much house and double the amount of land here compared to where they moved from. You’ll find that most homes in Georgia in older neighborhoods at least have a pretty great yard.
I recently spoke to a client wanting to relocate and yard size was important. I asked how big was big and they said they wanted ¼ acre yard. To them that was big and to us that is small! Some of the new construction options have a much smaller lot, but sometimes people are not after a huge piece of land that they have to maintain. Another thing they love is the fact that they have options to buy both new construction or resale. In some places, they have found that they simply are just not building any more homes, and that’s definitely not the case here in North Georgia. We have seen a huge increase in new construction neighborhoods and the area is most definitely growing and changing and we will continue to keep seeing new neighborhoods pop up in every town.
Clients love that not only are the houses cheaper, but so is the overall cost of living here in Georgia. Property taxes here are much lower than they are in the majority of the other states in the country, utilities are cheaper here, and gas is pretty cheap here too. Living in Georgia is much easier on your wallet then it is to live in states like California, New York, and Florida. Clients love the north metro Atlanta areas because of its awesome location. You can easily get into Atlanta, go up to the mountains, drive down to the beach, or get to the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta and fly wherever your heart desires. We sit in a really awesome part of the state where you can live in a small town on a big piece of land and not see your neighbors, or live in a busier city with tons of access to great shopping and amenities. You can find both of these scenarios with just a short drive between one another. If you live a little farther north, you can experience the beautiful north Georgia mountains and smaller town living, or you can choose to live a little bit closer to Atlanta in towns like Gainesville, Flowery Branch, or Buford and have tons of cool things right at your fingertips. Of course you can also pop on over to Lake Lanier, which spreads itself through five counties here in north Georgia.
This is one of the biggest things that clients love and choose to relocate here specifically for. Especially now that many people can work from home, they’ve chosen to relocate to places like the lake where they can do their 9-to-5 job in their house, shut their laptop down and walk outside and be on the gorgeous lake and not have to make an entire vacation out of it, they can live right there on it. If you are big into the outdoors, we have not only the lake obviously, but plenty of beautiful parks and places to go hiking, walking trails, and spending great time outside.
Another big thing you’ll find in a lot of places the clients love that they did not have in the towns they came from were these new splash pads and playgrounds were seeing pop up all over the place. There are so many things to do and see outdoors in this area. Or, if you’re not into the great outdoors, we have lots and lots of great shopping too! With places like Alpharetta and Buford, there is no shortage of great shopping to be had here if that is more your scene instead of being outside. No judgment here.
Not only do clients love the diversity in locations that you can get to easily from here, they also love how diverse people are. Georgia has become sort of a melting pot over the last few decades, and even more so since 2020. People from all over the country are deciding to move here for one reason or another and the state is definitely changing from the old Southern State that people expect it to be, or have an image of it in their minds as. Georgia has always been dubbed as part of the Bible belt, and religion is a big part of The south, but the state has grown and molded to be much more accepting and open then I think a lot of people give it credit for. Southern hospitality is a real thing here, and a lot of clients always tell me how refreshing it is to have people smile and wave at them in the grocery store, walking in the neighborhood, at the doctors office, literally everywhere. In the south, if you make eye contact, that means you have to wave and smile. That’s just how it is, we’re nice people here.
Another thing that people have come here and found out they loved is the food. We have incredible barbecue food – it is the south, remember? We’ve also got some of the best Mexican food, in my opinion, ever. If you’re in town and need a great spot to go get tacos, give me a call and I can give you a list of about 20 places that I love to go. This area of North Georgia also has a ton of breweries, you can go and get some beer, some yummy food, Play a round of corn hole and watch a football game on a Saturday – they are really fun places to go and hang out with your friends, or meet new people in your area. Or if wine is more your thing, we also have Château élan which is an incredible winery just down the street in Braselton.
One of the last things people love about this area is the great schools. As a former teacher, I know how important it is for your kids to have a chance to get a really great education, and they most definitely can do just that here. Buford city schools are some of the top rated in the country, if not the nation, and people choose to move here specifically for those very schools. All over Hall County and Gwinnett and the other surrounding counties, there are tons of different programs and options for your children, based on their needs. There are international baccalaureate programs, special education programs, hybrid programs, and the list goes on. There are tons of different ways for your kids to get a great education here. If you live in Georgia, what do you love, or not so love, about living here? It’s the tacos and lake for me!
